My rating would have been higher had there been an index. Had I know there was no index, I would not have purchased it - a book of this kind needs one - badly.
This is precisely what is needed by those of us who did not grow up with an iPad or iPhone in hand. We do not operate electronic devices instinctively and require instructions, preferably in printed form. (I'll admit, though, that my copy of Mr. Jones's book is on my Kindle Fire.) The book takes the reader step by step through the most common functions of the Fire HD 8 & 10, then goes on to include more complex operations. The writing style is simple, direct, and clear.
Simple commands are not described and are hard to locate. This manual needs to be reorganized, emphasizing an end-to-end process using better instructional design methods. It took me a couple of weeks to figure out how to properly close a program along with other simple navigation processes. Also, the Kindle program navigation is quite different from the Kindle Paperwhite. I bought the Fire 8 during Black Friday sales and because it was a bargain. This was probably a mistake and I should have gone with an Android Tablet.I am unable to add iTunes. I don't think the directions in the manual and online are up to date. What a surprise, eh? My question to the designers: why change common commands to be different from Apple, Microsoft and the latest Android products such as Samsung.
This is one of the most easy to read and concise "how to" manuals I've ever used. I had no clue how to use my new Fire and in short order, I'm a pro. I highly recommend this book for Fire 6/7 novices. Loaded with great tips, too!
I found this User Manual to be very useful. It was written for the 2015 Holiday Season, but I found just about everything had application to my Fire HD8 tablet, that I purchased in November of 2017. I like it because it not only tells how to use a function on my tablet, but it also explains what the function does and how it relates to other functions. I also found the various images that are presented to be clear and easy to see. I paid $0.99 for it, it was well worth the price, and I recommend this manual to others who are just getting started with a new tablet.
I would recommend this book to everyone. I preordered the first ever Fire to be offered, gotten the Guides for each model, and this is the best single book I have read yet.
I have read many of Edward Jones books on the Kindle Fire HD line (I have the Kindle Fire HD 2012 First Generation) and they are all excellent! He gives you just enough information and this book is geared to link the Amazon Help Videos on pertinent topics -- very well done!
I have a Fire 8.9 HD I got yers ago. I just got a 10 with Alexa for Christmas. On the 8.9, if you went to Amazon and brought up "Departments" from the Home page, it had lists of everything I purchased for my Kindle, including book titles and all my apps. Didn't check for the 10 yet, but you might try that.
